Lenovo Miix 310 Micro SD reader inconsistent behaviour

I recently bought a Lenovo Miix 310. When trying to use a 64 GB SDXC (a Sandisk Extreme) with it, I got trouble, as the computer would detect the card and initially work with it, but after some time the card would not work correctly anymore: Windows explorer (or any other application which tried to use the card) would hang (as if the card took forever to read), and would only get unstuck when I removed the card from the reader.

After checking the card in other computer, I concluded that the reader was faulty. However, I made some extra experiments, and now I don’t know what to conclude. I tried several MicroSD cards, all of them working perfectly when used in another computer. Testing a card meant to write on it a 1GB file and several files (another GB in total), and copy the files back from it. The results are as follow:

  • Kingston 4GB SDHC, class 4, taken from a digital photo frame: works perfectly. I even used Dropbox on it, and works like a charm.
  • Maxell 32 GB SDHC, class 10, taken from a Sports Camera (GoPro alike): erratic behaviour as described before.
  • Sony 16 GB SDHC, class 10 U1, taken from a Nintendo 3DS: doesn’t even get read; the hanging effect occurs when inserting the card.
  • Sandisk Extreme 64 GB SDXC, class 10 U3, new: erratic behaviour as described before.

I’ve tried formatting the cards with different file systems (Fat32, NTFS, ExFat). In the case of Fat32, I tried formatting with different sector sizes. It aparently doesn’t make any difference. I’ve also tried updating drivers. However, I wasn’t able to directly update the SD reader driver, as it doesn’t appear as such in the Device manager. I updated everything I could.

Any ideas? Maybe I’m missing something?
