Attempted to do system restore, correct restore point overrun by Install restore points

I recently did some changes to my computer that resulted in unexpected and unwanted results. I had the sense to create a manual restore point before I did this, but I didn’t notice this behavior before today. The changes I made & the restore point happened two days ago.

I went to System Restore, and I was greeted with dozens of “Windows Modules Installer” “Install” restore points. In fact, there were so many of these it seemed one had been created every single minute of yesterday by looking at the time stamp.

The System Restore also seems to have a limit on how many restore points it can show, so by the point that I get to scrolling down it’s nowhere near enough to be able to see my manual restore point or a restore point with a time even close to that. What caused this (is it malware? i ran multiple scans) and how can I fix it as well as be able to use my manual restore point?
